Impressions of the opening>>

We are very pleased to invite you to the exhibition of Andreas Bruchhäuser and Jana Dettmer from October 28 to November 25, 2021. The exhibition presents landscape painting that could not be more different: on the one hand, realistic landscape painting in soft pastel colours based on an impressionist way of seeing, on the other hand, abstract colour-intensive works in oil and acrylic created in squeegee technique. We are looking forward to an exciting exhibition! The exhibition can be visited without prior appointment, the 3G rule applies for admission.

Opening: October 28, 2021 at 6.30 pm

Andreas Bruchhäuser, born in Austria in 1962.

Raised in Germany/Westerwald from 1965 onwards, began studying art at the Städelschule in Frankfurt with Prof. Bayrle in 1981 and moved to the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1982 - 1986 to attend Prof. Rissa's class.

Her husband K.O. Götz's Informel had a stylistic influence on his pictorial language, especially in figurative painting and portraiture. Even during his studies, contrary to the prevailing trend in the visual arts at that time, he was already exploring landscape as a subject for his pictorial ideas, especially in the technique of plein air using pastel painting.

After moving to Koblenz in 1987, the Rhine increasingly became his subject. As a result, three illustrated books have been published, most recently "Mittelrhein" in 2017 by Verlag Nünnerich-Asmus. ("This book celebrates the artist Andreas Bruchhäuser - and celebrates the picture." FAZ). And the ARD, ZDF and SWR broadcasters have repeatedly included him and his work in formats on this subject.

Bruchhäuser was included in the "Saur Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon" in 1996 and is represented in many public and private collections, including the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Mittelrhein Museum in Koblenz, the Klinker Collection in Bochum, the Rhine Romanticism Collection in Bonn, and the Würth Collection in Künzelsau.

Jana Dettmer, born in Braunschweig in 1965.

Lives and works in Cologne and Southern France.Studied law at the University of Bayreuth.
Studied painting at Freie Kunstschule Cologne. Autodidactic training and assistance with the artists Karas, Zolper and Jansen.

Pure colour, structure, and form.

What happens just happens – random emergence as a principle.

"The less I try to influence the course of the picture, the more intense the result. That’s not easy for a structured person like myself, and many a battle must be fought.

When I am making a picture, I apply the paint, scrape it off again, recompose the image, reapply paint, and then use a squeegee to rework it. By the time it feels “right” to me, many layers of paint have been built up on the canvas, giving the picture depth, structure, and a feeling of vibrancy.

My colour-intensive abstract pictures play with various hues – with forms and surfaces, light and shadow that are not connected to reality. I work with brush, palette knife, and squeegee, using my hands dynamically while leaving room for chance. My painting is all about the freedom of representation; it is intuitive and spontaneous."

Abstract painting in particular appeals to me; it mirrors my attitude toward life, ranging between intuition and spontaneity, concept and structure, evoking my conception of independence, communication, emotionality, and aesthetics."
